THE parade of more than 400 Team GB athletes in Manchester on Monday to celebrate a record medal haul at the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games brought back memories for Sir Matthew Pinsent.

The four-time Olympic rowing champion recalled his return from the 1996 Games in Atlanta, where Team GB won just 15 medals and only one gold, which he and Sir Steve Redgrave won in the coxless pair.

Sir Matthew said: “I remember being part of an Olympic team and our parade was a convertible car in Henley-on-Thames. How times have changed!”
