JASPER CARROTT of Funky Moped fame has had something of a revival in recent times — all thanks to the Henley Festival.
The 71-year-old Brummie comedian and impressionist Alistair McGowan made their debut appearance together at the 2014 festival.
Speaking on the BBC’s One Show, Carrott recalled: “We were thrown together at the Henley Festival and they had this 800-seater tent. They didn’t know what to do with it so they asked if I would do an hour but I wasn’t quite ready to do an hour because I hadn’t worked for ages but I could do half an hour and he [Alistair] could do half an hour, so that’s what we did.”
In another interview, he said: “It made me fall in love with doing comedy all over again. It has been a long time since I did a long live tour — it was probably about 1998.
“But it works when we do half an hour each, then have a break followed by half an hour each again. Alistair and I get on like a house on fire and it is a pleasure to go into work.”
The pair are now touring together and will be at the New Theatre in Oxford in March.
