Shiplake College students bag international medals

SHIPLAKE College athletes had success at the Home International Regatta held at Dorney Lake, where England retained the junior women’s, junior men’s, senior women’s and senior men’s trophies for the fourth year in a row.

Shiplake saw representation for England and Wales with Year 13 pupil Katie Proudlove and Year 12 pupil Ben Loggie rowing for England, while Year 13 pupil Tomos Weighell rowed for Wales.

Two former Shiplake pupils were also in action with Emily Downing and Oliver Joiner — who both left the college in 2024 — rowing for Wales and England respectively.

Katie Proudlove was first in action, winning silver for England in the single sculls B race. She followed this with another silver medal in the junior women’s coxless quadruple sculls race before taking gold in the junior women’s coxless quadruple sculls 500m sprint.

Ben Loggie, who was coxing, won gold for England in all his events — the junior men’s coxed fours and junior men’s coxed eights — while Tomos Weighell took home a silver medal in the junior eights 500m sprint and a bronze in the junior men’s eights race.

For the former Shiplake pupils, Emily Downing won gold for Wales in the women’s eights race and the women’s eights 500m sprint while Oliver Joiner won silver for England in the men’s coxed fours race and gold in the men’s eights coxed race.
