THE annual dinner-dance of Henley and District Agricultural Association held at Phyllis Court Club on Friday attracted the largest attendance for some years, 170 members and guests being present. This year’s president, Mr J E Chalcraft, presided and with him was Mrs Chalcraft, who was presented with a bouquet by the association’s honorary secretary, Miss Gillian Mackenzie.

It was a happy and representative gathering at Shiplake Memorial Hall on Saturday when the chairman and members of Shiplake Parish Council joined with visitors from Oxford, Dunsden, Harpsden, Peppard and Henley in paying tribute to Mrs Robinson, who recently retired after 22 years’ service to the community as district nurse. Mrs Doble, chairman of the parish council, wished her a long and happy retirement and then called up the Hon. Mrs R Phillimore to present a gold watch and cheque to Mrs Robinson, who expressed her deep appreciation for the gifts.

Some 60 members and guests, including past and present players of Somerset County Cricket Club, attended Kidmore End Cricket Club’s end of season dinner held under the chairmanship of Major C H Waterhouse at the ground on Friday last. Alan Shepherd proposed the toast.
