PTE R Howard, of the Henley, Oxfordshire and Bucks Light infantry, has been wounded in action. It was reported in Henley last week that he was killed or had died of his wounds. This report, however, which naturally caused much distress to his wife, was untrue and we now learn that Pte Howard is convalescing at a base camp where he is making good progress towards recovery. Pte Howard was one of the first to join up with the national Reservists shortly after the outbreak of the war.

The Rt Hon Sir W G F Phillimore has resigned his position as a Lord Justice of Appeal and the vacancy thus created has been filled by the appointment of the Hon Mr Justice Scrutton. Sir Walter, who is son of the famous jurist Sir R Phillimore, has been a judge of the High Court for 19 years. He was called to the bar in 1868.

At the annual general meeting of the members of the St John Ambulance Brigade, which was held at Trinity Hall on Tuesday evening, Dr Brownlow, the Hon Surgeon, presiding, it was unanimously agreed that any residents in the town who hold the St John first aid certificate be invited to join the division.
