Parkrun cancelled due to wasps’ nest

A WASPS’ nest in 40 Acre Field near the start of the Henley parkrun course cancelled last Saturday’s event.

It is now being treated by pest control contractors in the hopes tomorrow’s run will be able to go ahead.

Daisy Smith, Henley Town Council’s communications manager, said the council sent the team back on Thursday to monitor wasp activity to decide whether the parkrun can resume.

Ms Smith said: “The nests naturally die off at this time of year, so the problem should soon be resolved.”

Organisers said last Friday that the run was cancelled after wasps were identified in at least nine locations on the course.

Run director Phil Stubbington said: “A number of our runners were stung the previous week, one particularly badly.”
