Update 6.15pm: Train lines have reopened between London Paddington and Reading, following the death of a person on the tracks at Hanwell station earlier today.
Major disruption is now expected to last until 8pm as Elizabeth line, Great Western Railway and Heathrow Express trains return to normal schedules. Cancellations and delays may still occur, National Rail said.
An update on the company's website said: "Following the emergency services dealing with an earlier incident in the Southall area, all lines have now reopened and trains are returning to normal.
"As services recover, trains running between London Paddington and Heathrow Airport / Reading may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.
"Major disruption is expected until 20:00."
Update 1.05pm: A person has died on the train tracks at Hanwell station, British Transport Police has said.
Emergency services were called to the scene after reports of a casualty on the tracks at just after 12pm. The death is not being treated as suspicious, a spokesperson said.
Trains between London Paddington and Reading remain disrupted with cancellations and delays of up to two hours, according to Great Western Railway and National Rail. Major disruption is expected until 6pm.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called at around 12.15pm today (17 October) to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Hanwell railway station.
"Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
An update on the National Rail Website said: We have sadly been informed that a person has been hit by a train.
"Staff are working with Network Rail, other train operators and the emergency services who are on site and dealing with this incident.
"Train services may not be able to operate whilst the incident is dealt with in a sensitive way.
"Lines may be blocked and certain stations may be closed as investigations are carried out."
Update 12.30: All train lines between London Paddington and Reading have closed while emergency services respond to an incident, National Rail has said.
All trains between the two stations, including Maidenhead and Slough, are experiencing disruption while emergency services work. Disruption is expected until 3pm.
The company said on its website: "The emergency services are dealing with an incident in the Southall area.
"Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, all lines between these stations are closed.
"Trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised."
Passengers have been warned to expect delays, revisions and cancellations to trains servicing Maidenhead and Slough due to an investigation this morning.
National Rail said a safety inspection of track in the Twyford area was causing disruption to train services along the London Paddington to Reading line.
Elizabeth line and Great Western Railway services are both affected by the disruption which is set to last until 12pm.
Great Western Railway's website said: "We have had a report of a defect with the track in the Twyford area, on one of the two lines that trains from Reading to London Paddington use."
