THE Sonning Common and Peppard B side boosted their chances of survival in Division 1 of the Reading and District Table Tennis League last week thanks to a 7-3 win against their D team.

Nigel Maltby salvaged fine double wins against Matt Stone and Tim Raby, but Tom Astle maintained his impressive recent form to record another maximum to condemn the D team to almost certain relegation. Danny Dockree also secured his maximum in Sonning Common & Peppard C’s visit to Sonning Sports A but their position remains precarious as Nick Sears, Paul Savage and Graham Diplock all scored braces as Sonning ran out 7-3 victors.

Jim Warren secured a notable win over Eric Van Looy as the E team won 6-4 against Tilehurst Methodists A in Division 3. In Division 4 the F team’s promotion hopes remain in the balance after they were held to a 5-5 draw by Sonning Sports C, Oliver Bonser and Mike Cassereley both winning twice alongside a single from Alistair Scott.

The G team lost 10-0 at Sonning Sports D, a result that clinched the Sports teams promotion.
