THE new Checkendon Pre-School fun run has been hailed a success and could become an annual event.
The first one was held on Saturday when about 30 adults ran either a 10km or 5km route and about 20 children completed the shorter run.
The participants ran around fields and through woods belonging to Bill Beeton.
Ben Chaffey won the 10km event with a finishing time of 41 minutes and 34 seconds and Lucy Chapman was the fastest female.
The 5km race was won by Luci Pocinkova in 26 minutes and 25 seconds and Ben Morgan won a 1km children’s race. The event raised about £450 which will go towards new IT and PE equipment at the pre-school.
Pre-school supervisor Nina Hollier said: “This is a new fund-raising initiative for our community.
“We thought ‘we live in these wonderful surroundings, so let’s use them. We’ve got a lot of parents who enjoy running, so let’s put two and two together’.
“It was a really nice event and we were so lucky with the weather.
“I do see it as something that could be an annual event. Obviously we’re hoping it will get bigger and better each year.”
