Academy players celebrate campaign

HENLEY Hockey Club’s academy section held its end of season celebration at Jubilee Park.

More than 310 girls and boys aged four to 18 played for the various junior age groups this season.

The U8s, U10s and U12s have all taken part in monthly Thames Valley Mini Tournaments, with the U12s also competing in the new South Central Leagues.

The U14s, U16s and U18s played in South Central Leagues and also the England Hockey Cup Competitions while the U10s and U12s took part in the England Hockey In2Hockey county championship, with the U12 girls winning their tournament and the U10 boys coming runners-up in theirs.

The U10 girls came third in the round robin out of seven teams, just missing out in reaching the final, then came third in the third/fourth place play-off.

The U12 boys topped their group but lost in the semi-finals and then lost on flicks in the third/fourth place play-off, finishing in fourth place.

The U18s awards, the Grow Your Own Award, the youth players of the year and the Sue Burrell youth club person of the year award will be announced at a later date.
