Classen nets brace as Town shine under the lights

THE newly formed Henley Town Veterans team kicked off their home uhlsport Hellenic Veterans Division 1 West campaign last week after having picked up four points in their opening three away games.

At home under the Triangle lights, the hosts ran out 3-1 winners against a well-organised Marcham side. Henley took the lead when Mike Classen pounced on a loose ball after some good work from Ibrahim and Steven Buckley which resulted in his shot being parried by the Marcham goalkeeper straight to Jonny Summers’s feet who slotted home his fourth goal in as many games.

With 10 minutes to go until half time, a neatly worked corner led to Sergio Lombardo scoring his first of the season after the ball bounced off a few players from either side in the penalty area. On the stroke of half-time, yet more good team pressing resulted in Classen reading a back pass which allowed him to round the keeper to put Henley 3-0 ahead at the break.

Marcham threatened more in the second half and pulled a goal back from the penalty spot.
