WITH its own stretch of water just two and a half miles upstream from the iconic , it is no surprise that Shiplake College has a thriving and successful boat club.
The college is nationally renowned for rowing — Shiplake rowers were part of the crews that won gold medals at this year’s Coupe de la Jeunesse, an international rowing regatta for under-19s, and provided a GB representative for the Junior World Championships in the summer.
Former pupils include Olympic medallists Ben Hunt-Davis (Sydney 2000) and Will Satch (Rio 2016 and London 2012).
The college is looking to recruit promising athletes to join their existing pool of exceptional talent and form crews which can excel at the very highest level.
Rowing scholarships are available for Year 12 entry in September 2017. Where appropriate, scholarships may be supplemented by further financial assistance.
Shiplake rowers receive elite coaching and support in order to help realise their potential.
Scholars are expected to adopt a professional attitude towards their sport. In doing so, they will serve as role models for younger pupils, and inspire their peers to reach similarly high standards in years to come. If you have the potential to thrive in Shiplake’s learning and sporting environment, and have aspirations to reach an elite level of rowing in the future, you are warmly encouraged to apply now.
The deadline for applications is Monday, October 31, with the rowing assessment day taking place on Friday, November 25.
