TWO consecutive 500-capacity sell-outs at the marquee at Phyllis Court in Henley meant that at around 5.30pm on Friday there were two queues in the several hundreds simultaneously.

One was to get in to Graham Norton’s event and the other to have books signed by the 4pm speaker Elif Shafak — breaking even Thames Water’s queue-generating record in the town.
