Ryde and Sudbury make it hat-trick of wins at Shiplake College

THE Shiplake College Primary and Prep Schools’ cross country competition returned for the third year earlier this month.

On a day with perfect running conditions, the college welcomed 137 girls and boys from years 1 to 6 to tackle runs of varying lengths.

Shiplake College headmaster, Mr Howe, along with head dog Simba, were waiting at the finish line to award gold, silver and bronze medals to the first three finishers of each race, while every participant was given a certificate with their position marked on the front. The first three in each race took to the podium to receive their medals.

Shiplake College’s director of sport, Mr Bradley, was on duty at the start line and many of Shiplake's sports leadership pupils, as well as members of staff, were on duty throughout the morning acting as marshals and recording results. Meanwhile Shiplake’s year 12 pupils Louis Crerar, Henry Kerrison, Alfie Malcolm and M O’Brien acted as hares and chasers to ensure that no one got lost along the way.

The first three in each event were as follows:

Year 1: girls’ — 1 Sienna Lakin (Nettlebed), 2 Bethan Palmer (Shiplake), 3 Harley Mcbrook (Whitchurch); boys’ — 1 Joshua Mattingly (Shiplake), 2 Jacob Newth (St Piran’s), 3 Tommy Martin (St Piran’s).

Year 2: girls’ — 1 Phoebe Soles (Nettlebed), 2 Freya Hammond (Kidmore End), 3 Alice O’Brien (Trinity); boys’ — 1 Jack Siveyer (Whitchurch), 2 Eddie Johnson (Shiplake), 3 Max Cottle (Sonning Common).

Year 3: girls’ — 1 Rose Harris (St Prian’s), 2 Isabel Bromley (Trinity), 3 Sophie Longden (Oratory); boys’ — 1 Harry Newth (St Piran’s), 2 Teddy Holland (Kidmore End), 3 Joseph Conway (Nettlebed).

Year 4: girls’ - 1 Martha Sudbury (Woodcote), 2 Teddy Nolmer (Rupert House), 3 Olivia Greaves (Peppard); boys’ — 1 Joseph Palmer (Shiplake), 2 Tom Howson (St Piran’s), 3 Thomas Dickens (Rupert House).

Year 5: girls’ — 1 Jemima Watson (Rupert House), 2 Eloise Woulters (Rupert House), 3 Freya Wright (St Piran’s); boys’ — 1 Max Gosning (Wooden Hill), 2 Lucas Robinson (Moulsford), 3 Rowan Mash (Wooden Hill).

Year 6: girls’ — 1 Amy Longden (Oratory), 2 Matilda Groh (Rupert House), 3 Izzy Cole (Trinity); boys’ — 1 Issac Ryder (Caversham), 2 Ben Tomlinson (St Piran’s), 3 Jase Ralfs (St Piran’s).
