Record sum for Poppy Appeal

09:30AM, Monday 13 October 2025

A RECORD amount of money was raised for the Henley Poppy Appeal in the last year.

In the year to October 1, Henley raised £54,475, breaking the town’s previous record of £47,000 raised in 2014 to mark
100 years since the end of the First World War.

The branch said the 80th anniversary of VE Day in June helped to boost funds, with £10,000 raised and also the Henley branch donating £1,000 of its own funds to the appeal.

The next Poppy Appeal officially launches in Henley on Saturday, October 25 from about 10.30am.

There will be a performance by the Fabulous Ukulele Club and Mayor Tom Buckley will receive the first poppy at 11am.

Richard Pinches, who chairs the branch, said: “As we all know, the Poppy Appeal raises vital funds to support veterans, serving personnel and their families.

“I encourage anyone with an hour to spare to join our team. You’ll be helping a cause that means so much to so many.”
