Wb Benson weir walkway closure 2808

WORK on the new Benson weir walkway is expected to be completed by next spring, the Environment Agency has confirmed.

The walkway has been closed with a diversion route in place since a structural survey carried out in late 2023 found it was no longer in a safe condition.

The government-run agency, which is responsible for the walkway, said work on the new fish pass and radial gates progressed well over the summer months.

The project will continue until November before being suspended for the winter months.

Following the winter closure, the final works on the fish pass will be completed and the walkway reopened.

As well as providing a pedestrian route across the river, the weir helps the agency to manage water levels, flood risk, maintain fish habitats and support boating.
