Eastender reopens tennis club

A SOAP star officially relaunched a tennis club in Caversham.

Rudolph Walker, who plays Patrick Trueman in EastEnders, cut the ribbon at the refurbished clubhouse at Mapledurham Tennis Club, off Upper Woodcote Road, on Saturday.

The 74-year-old actor, who also starred in Love Thy Neighbour and The Thin Blue Line, lives in Caversham and has been a member of the club for more than 40 years.

The clubhouse has been refurbished over the last four months thanks to a £38,800 grant from Sport England and £27,700 contributed by the club itself.

Mr Rudolph said: “I have been a member going back to 1973 and the club has come a long way since then. I remember when we had to put buckets down when it was raining.”
