THE sole purpose of this old sign appears to be to warn would-be vandals not to damage it!

It can be found in Ewelme high street and may well mark where some sort of AA authorised vehicle repair shop was once located.

It seems from the rusting metal that the weather has done the job of any likely miscreants.

Even so, the text can still be read as: “£2 reward will be paid for information leading to the conviction of any person or persons damaging these signs.”

Underneath it says: “By order The Automobile Association & Motor Union, Whitcomb Street, London W.”

This suggests the sign dates back to when the AA reviewed garages and hotels.
