Council backs school repairs

REPLACEMENT steps at the front of Rupert House School in Henley have been recommended for approval.

The independent school wants the column pediment to its Grade II listed building to be repaired as it has become misaligned.

The steps to the building were also replaced last year as they were worn and cracked.

A design and access statement said the repairs would replicate the original design, offering improved safety and restoring a prominent architectural detail of the protected building and provide a more appropriate entrance in line with the historic design.

Henley Town Council’s planning committee has recommended approving the plans, subject to conditions from the assistant heritage officer. A final decision will be made by South Oxfordshire District Council by April 23.
