AN educational trust in Peppard is celebrating its 40th year.

Rotherfield Peppard Educational Trust was established in 1982 following the sale of Rotherfield secondary school.

Its aims are to support the educational needs of anyone under the age of 25 living in the parish.

Over the four decades, it has supported many initiatives including transport to an after-school homework club, a hockey tour, the World Challenge expeditions to Morocco, Romania and Peru, volunteering in India, Cambodia, Indonesia and Thailand, young chorister courses, participation in accelerated maths programmes, the purchase of a kayak for a young person taking part in national and international events, a primary school annual adventure trip, hiring of equipment for school projects, the Active Zone at Bishopswood School, covering the cost of competing in BMX European Championships, providing books for university students and sending an orchestra to China.

The trust said it received only a small number of applications as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and is encouraging young people to seek funding.
