The ‘demure’ B&B that has ‘so much rizz’ goes viral

AN 880-year-old bed and breakfast in Benson has gone viral on social media.

Christine Duggin Brown and her daughter Frannie Brown are the creators behind “When you ask your Gen Z daughter to write the marketing script.”

Mrs Duggin Brown, who owns Fyfield Manor in Brook Street Benson, gave a tour of her property and posted it on TikTok, the online video sharing platform, and has been viewed nearly 10 million times and “liked” 1.5 million times.

The video describes the B&B as “giving zen”, as “very demure” and “slay” and the pair said they were shocked by how well it did.

Frannie, 26, started the Fyfield Manor TikTok account in March this year and came up with the idea for the video having seen similar ones online.

She said: “The first video got about 100,000 to 150,000 views. I was pretty happy with that and when we made this one I was hoping it would be similar to the last one. We posted this one on Sunday evening and by Monday lunchtime it had 2.5 million views. I was thrilled, the Gen Z language in the TikTok are bits from the internet, ‘demure’ has been a big thing online recently.”

The video took 40 minutes to film with editing and Frannie’s script writing the whole clip only took an hour and a half to make. In the video, Christine can be heard describing the bed and breakfast’s features as having “understood the assignment”, and being 880 years old “no cap”.

She also describes a medieval dining room as having “so much rizz” and ends by saying: "Whether you need to recover from a brat summer or menty b — this is the place for you. Slay!”

Mrs Duggin Brown said: “It didn’t take very long but the more I said the more I would get it wrong. I thought I was doing a history tour, I didn’t understand some of the words in the script. I made sure that they were not rude or offensive. In the garden the ‘very zen’ seemed fitting. The cream room as well I understood what ‘demure’ was and ‘mindfulness’, but I had not thought of using them. I had never heard ‘rizz’ or ‘slay’. I am getting emails now saying I am going to come and stay and slay.

“Originally, when my daughter told me what I would be saying I thought it she was talking about Jay-Z the rapper, so that is about as much as I knew about what I was doing.”

Mrs Duggin Brown has run the bed and breakfast with her family for the last 25 years and wanted to reach younger people through media. She said: “I wanted to try something new, most people are older, and I wanted to get younger people.

“Doing the video made me realise how marketing has changed, it’s easy to stay in a rut but this has helped push me into the 21st century. It has been fun, I am amazed with how many people have seen it.

“I now get guests to fill out a card to tell me where they have come from, so I can see if people have come from TikTok. I already have people saying they are going to come and stay because of the videos.”

The pair have said they hope to create more TikToks in the future and also feature Francis, Frannie’s father.
