Murder inquiry launched after Burnham death

Reports of violent crime to Thames Valley Police increased by 30 per cent in last year

A murder investigation has been launched after a man died in Burnham.

Police were called to the George Inn, in the High Street, shortly after midnight, following a report that a 48-year-old man had been assaulted inside.

The victim was treated at the scene but later died in hospital.

His next of kin have been informed.

A police cordon is in place at the pub.

In a statement, Detective Chief Inspector Simon Steel said: “My appeal is to anyone who was in The George Inn public house around midnight who witnessed the assault or has any information regarding the incident to contact police immediately.”

He added: “This is an isolated incident and we are conducting a thorough investigation to find out what happened inside the public house last night.

“A scenewatch will remain in place at the public house and there will be police activity in the area. If you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to approach one of our officers or PCSOs.”
