A MAN from Henley accused of interfering with the post has had his case dismissed after a delay of seven months.
Martin Jones, 53, of Station Road, was charged with delaying and opening a parcel in April last year following its theft from a communal area of a block of flats.
The case was supposed to be heard in June last year but the hearing date was repeatedly put back until Wednesday last week when it was finally thrown out by Deputy District Judge Booker, sitting at Oxford Magistrates’ Court.
Speaking after the hearing, Mr Jones said: “At the time of this fiasco I was a little perturbed by the overzealous actions of the police, which ultimately resulted in this bogus charge being brought against me.
“I consider it contemptible that public funds were squandered this way.
“However, I welcome the judge’s astuteness in recognising this charade, thereafter dismissing all charges against me.
“I bear no malice towards my accuser or the police and hope they have both learnt from this experience.”
