HENLEY may have been a tad hot and sweltering in recent days — but with the weekend upon us there is a chance to take a cinematic chill pill by the riverside.
Last night (Thursday) saw the return of the “Regal by the River” series of open-air cinema screenings at a specially built pavilion on Mill Meadows.
Organised by the Picturehouse cinema chain as part of its “Pop Up” season, the first film to be shown was sci-fi blockbuster Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens.
The screenings continue tonight (Friday) with Eighties classics Back to the Future starring Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd and tomorrow (Saturday) with Footloose starring Kevin Bacon.
A Picturehouse spokesman said: “Screenings will take place around 9.15pm, or as soon as it becomes dark. You are invited to arrive early, relax and enjoy a drink in the beautiful riverside surroundings. Gates will open at 7pm.”
In tonight’s film, set in 1985, teenager Marty McFly is accidentally zapped back into the Fifties, where he inadvertently interferes with the budding romance of his parents, thereby imperilling his own existence.
Tomorrow night, iconic dance drama Footloose sees free-spirited teenager Ren MacCormack arrive in a small Midwestern town to a wave of outrage.
