ROBERT Louis Stevenson’s classic fable of the duelling halves of our human nature will be on song at the Kenton Theatre next week, courtesy of the Henley Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society.
The group is staging a four-night run of the hit 1997 Broadway musical version of Jekyll & Hyde from Wednesday (May 25).
With book and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and music by Frank Wildhorn, the drama opens in London in 1885.
Dr Henry Jekyll, a brilliant young doctor and research scientist, anguishes over his father’s baffling mental illness.
Jekyll is obsessed by the belief that, given appropriate support by his peers in the medical profession, he can separate the dual elements of good and evil that are constantly struggling for supremacy within every human being.
And so begins his quest for a solution. In his laboratory, Jekyll makes himself the subject of his experiment. He injects himself with the prepared formula and is horrifyingly transformed into Edward Hyde.
As Hyde, he exults in his new, evil and liberated persona — but can he  co-exist with his creator?
Having enjoyed successful runs on Broadway and in the West End, this intriguing and atmospheric musical boasts some unforgettable songs, including Once Upon A Dream and This is The Moment.
Showtime is 7.45pm each night — plus a matinée at 2.30pm on Saturday, May 28.

n COMING up at the Kenton before HAODS take the stage is a concert by the Kast Off Kinks tomorrow night (Saturday).
As the name suggests, the band are former members of The Kinks, back together to relive the good times.
The line-up features Mick Avory, the original drummer on all the classic hits from 1964 to 1984, along with John Dalton (bass/vocals, Sixties and Seventies), Ian Gibbons (keyboard/vocals, Eighties and Nineties), and Dave Clarke (guitar/vocals).
