Henley and Upper Thames crews lead the way on home waters

HOSTS Henley Rowing Club and Upper Thames both picked up wins at last Saturday’s Henley Sculls, an event raced over 3,000m from Greenlands to the regatta finish with morning and afternoon divisions.

A strong headwind for both divisions made sculling uncomfortable and resulted in capsizing.

Henley again came away with a good set of results across all their squads.

In Division 1 the WJ18 quads took first and second place, the crew of Molly Hall, Scarlett Hyde, Chloe Hughes, Lillian Graham beating Evie Meeks, Holly Jackson, Sophie Floyd and Daisy Millard by 29 seconds.

At the other end of the age scale the WJ14 quad of Martha Lowe, Matilda Groh, Katie Clegg, Emily Weeks and cox Pelin Girgin had a convincing win against Bewl Bridge of nearly 90 seconds.

In Division 2, the boys’ J14 quad of Thomas Leppard, Ernest Sterjo, Nai Kennedy, Milo Eyers and cox Ben Freeman triumphed against Great Marlow School by 71 seconds. Also beating Great Marlow into second place was the girls’ J16 quad of Erin Goodall, Polina Bezuhlyi, Issy Hughes and Caila Barlow winning by just three seconds. Oliver Rowley and Diego Petrosillo took the win in the boys’ J16 double sculls beating Maidenhead Rowing Club by 15 seconds. Henley’s masters crews saw Laura Johnson, Jane Ashby, Jo Paice and Elizabeth Thomaseau win the women’s masters E quads, Mike Lambourne, Jack Barrett, Tom Jost and Nick Friend the masters B/C/D quads, Matt Peachey and Jan Wildenhain the D/E double sculls and Victoria Morgan the women’s masters E singles. Upper Thames Rowing saw wins in Division 2 in the open quad sculls, masters C double sculls and women’s masters A single sculls. The success continued in Division 2, with further wins in the open double sculls, masters D and G single sculls and women’s masters B and E double sculls.
