Passengers increase on bus service

A BUS service in Henley which is subsidised by the town council has seen a rise in passengers.

The Henley Hopper bus, which moved from a three-day to five-day service in March, has seen 458 more people use it in June compared to the same month last year.

The total number of passengers was 1,486.

The increased service has come at a cost of £85,240 to the town council and this will increase to £91,948 for 2026.

Councillor Gill Dodds, who chairs the 60+ Social Club in Greys Road car park, said: “I know a lot of our members use the bus to come into town.

“It’s brilliant that we are managing to do the five-day service because it’s not only the transport, it’s the social side of it — chatting to people regularly.

“It’s expensive but it’s great that the town council is supporting it and I’m hopeful we can continue to do that. It’s of great value to those who don’t have their own car, who have had to give up driving or don’t have their own way of getting into Henley.”

The service operates Monday to Friday from 9am to 2pm.
