Payne bags milestone goal as free-scoring Wargrave run riot

PREMIER Division leaders WARGRAVE put in another dominant performance as they brushed aside visitors WOODCOTE 9-1 last Saturday.

Wargrave took an early lead through Sam Wild before Woodcote equalised through Sam Primmer.

Wild won a penalty which Joe Wigmore converted before Zak Colvin made it
3-1 at half-time.

Wargrave started the second half well and Wild quickly made it 4-1 and then 5-1 claiming his second hat-trick in his last two games.

Ben Dobson scored his first goal for the club to make it
6-1. Wild then went on to assist returning captain Stuart Moss for 7-1 and Teddy Thomas added the eighth.

The last goal of the game was scored by James Payne — his 100th career goal — in the dying minutes.

HENLEY TOWN cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win at bottom-of-the-table WOKINGHAM TOWN RESERVES.

On a difficult pitch Town adapted their tactics and opted for a more direct style of play that was soon rewarded in the 20th minute when a good cross from the right wing by Dan York was headed home by captain Luke Mulvaney.

The visitors made it 2-0 five minutes later when Mulvaney’s free kick was met by Alberto Gingell whose glancing header found the top of the net.

Henley could have added more with Tommy Fosh hitting the post. Wokingham threatened a couple of times without troubling keeper Ben Palmer before centre back Aiden Cameron hit a low shot from 30 yards that the goalkeeper managed to get hold of but let the ball slip over the line to put Henley in 3-0 up at the break.

With some changes in the second half, Town dominated play but despite numerous chances they only added a further goal when Sam Clark broke through and hit a shot in off the crossbar to seal all three points.

The only negative point for Henley was a red card for Mulvaney after reacting to a late tackle with five minutes of the match remaining.

GORING UNITED sealed a 3-2 home win against READING YMCA after a dominant first-half display was followed by a nervy second-half finish.

The home side opened the scoring inside the first minute through a Chris Pocock goal.

Goring doubled their lead soon after when Sully Akers was fouled in the box to win a penalty. Akers then stepped up to convert from the spot and make it 2-0.

The hosts added a third before the interval when Josh Monk produced a fine run, beating three defenders before delivering a cross back across goal where Pocock met the ball with a looping header that dropped into the net to give Goring a 3-0 half-time advantage.

Reading YMCA came out strongly after the break and pulled a goal back almost immediately, swinging the momentum away from Goring. The home side struggled to regain their rhythm as YMCA grew in confidence. The visitors reduced the deficit further with 10 minutes remaining to set up a tense finale. Goring thought they had sealed the points late on when James Plumridge found the net, but the goal was disallowed. Despite the late pressure, Goring held firm to secure all three points.
