Emmer Green storm into Charity Cup quarter-finals

EMMER GREEN booked their place in the Tilehurst Charity Cup quarter-finals with an emphatic 8-3 victory over TILEHURST EL PATRONS on Sunday.

The game started brightly for the hosts, who took the lead through Pele Hagger, finishing a well-worked move assisted by Luke Maze.

Tilehurst briefly levelled, but Emmer Green quickly regained control when Jordan Lovelock put the home side back in front after some good individual play from Liam Lukeman.

From there, Emmer Green turned on the style. Luke Maze made it 3-1, converting a pinpoint cross from Daniel Donegan, before Mark Froude powered home a header from a Hagger corner to make it 4-1 to the home side at half-time.

The second half saw more attacking flair. Joe Roff added a fifth, again thanks to Hagger’s creativity.

Substitute Beau Edwards headed home a Donegan free kick to make it 6-1, before Maze returned to the scoresheet to make it 7-1.

El Patrons were given an opportunity to pull one back, but James Bozarth saved the spot kick. A second penalty followed, which Bozarth couldn’t stop, and another consolation goal soon after for the visitors.

Emmer Green weren’t finished as Maze capped off a sensational performance by completing his perfect hat-trick.

Emmer Green will meet Give Back in the next round.

In Division 5, HENLEY EXILES ran out 3-1 winners at home to TILEHURST TROJANS.

Henley put Tilehurst under immediate pressure and took the lead early when Bailey Greathead hit a good shot from outside the box which the keeper could only parry and Conner Gough followed up for a tap-in.

Conner got his brace when he took advantage of a loose pass at the back, he shot from range and caught the goalkeeper off-guard.

In the second half Henley controlled the tempo but conceded a goal against the run of play.

For a 15-minute spell Tilehurst looked dangerous but the Exiles sealed victory when Will Aldridge put in a corner for Conner to get on the end of and complete his hat-trick.
